Abstract

This research is due to concepts in several articles that state that the domination and role of a teacher are very influential in developing students' religious activities. Based on Adam and Decey, a teacher is defined as a guide, instructor, advisor, and role model to develop students' religious activities. Thus, researcher is interested in conducting this research, how the role played by Islamic religious education teacher at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri in developing students' religious activities, then the results of the research will be described by researcher on the basis of data from research results that researcher have conducted. Based on the matter above, the researcher proposed the following research questions (1) What is the role of a teacher as instructor in developing the religious activities of students at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri? (2) What is the role of the teacher as a guide in developing the religious activities of students at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri? (3) What is the role of the teacher as a role model in developing the religious activities of students at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri? This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The data sources in this research were obtained from researcher conducting direct research at SMK PGRI 2 Kediri and were divided into two categories, namely: primary data and secondary data. Data analysis used data reduction methods, data presentation, and conclusions. The research results indicated that (1) The role of a teacher as an instructor is to implement familiarization with religious activities before teaching and learning activities in the classroom such as reciting the Holy Quran and reading tawasul to teachers, (2) The role of a teacher as a guide is to help students who find a lot of difficulties in learning. (3) The role of a teacher as a role model is to provide commendable behavior and good habits to students.
